ZIFSocket

What is it? A Zero Insertion Force socket is a specially designed socket for processors such as Intels 486 and Pentium chips. These chips contained dozens of pins which were easily bent. The ZIF connection allowed the average end-user to upgrade the processor. The ZIF socket contains a lever that opens and closes, securing the processor in place without requiring pressure to be put on the processor.
